The public house was original situated at the foot of Old Hill with a pond and green infront of it. For much of the 18th century, it was owned by the local brewery, serving their Fox's Ales. When the current A21 Farnborough Way was built in 1927, the old pub stood on the route of the new road, and it therefore had to be replaced by the present building, set back from the road.
