Graham Gower recalls: &#8216;The first flying bomb in Streatham landed on the old Empire Cinema&#8230; the blast caught the edge of our air raid shelter and blew the door off while we were inside. My mother immediately decided that we should be evacuated. With my mother I was taken to stay in a house in Lune Street, Lancaster. It was called the &#8216;Mini-Evacuation&#8217; and we were away for only about 6 weeks&#8217;.Image by kind permission of Graham Gower.
