An official government diagram released to the press of the V2 rocket. The rockets were named the ‘Vergeltungswaffe (Revenge weapon) No 2’ and descended on their targets at 3,000 miles an hour, arriving with no warning. They were the deadliest of the weapons launched against Britain and the first rocket attacks were attributed to gas main explosions. 1,050 rockets fell on Southern England from September 1944 to March 1945 and 2,754 people were killed by them, with 6,523 wounded. Four V2s fell on Lambeth, the worst incident was on the 4th January 1945 at Surrey Lodge Dwellings near Lambeth Road, killing 39 people.
