The mural was part of a scheme for artists arranged by Mrs Eva Hubback, the Principal, with advice from Sir John Rothenstein. Funding of \u00c2\u00a31,300 was received in 1928 from Sir Joseph Duveen for murals and Mahoney was commissioned, along with Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden, to paint the public spaces at the college. The official unveiling was by the Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin in 1930.
