A ‘crashed’ van painted with artworks by Faile at the Cans Festival of street art in Leake Street, Waterloo. Faile is a collective of artists formed in 1999 by Patrick McNeil (Canada), Patrick Miller (U.S.) and Aiko Nakagawa (Japan). They are based in New York and are acknowledged as pioneers of global contemporary street art. Their initial artworks were screen-printed posters for pasting up on the streets of New York and other world cities. Faile’s distinctive style is now applied to other areas of fine art and includes many references to popular culture. The Festival, from 3rd-5th May, was organised by Pictures on Walls and Blank Expression with the permission of the British Rail Residuary Board and Department of Transport. It was the world’s largest exhibition of stencilled street art, and featured over 40 international artists, attracting 30,000 visitors. Digital image dated 3rd May 2008.
