An appeal leaflet for the Kennington Church Missionary Association: ‘After the long and zealous perseverance\u2026.had succeeded in inducing the Government of our country to emancipate the suffering sons of Africa from the tyranny of Human Slavery, it became the duty \u2026of the Established Church, to \u2026attempt to emancipate their minds from the formidable tyranny of Ignorance, Idolatry, and Superstition. \u2026Hundreds of poor children, liberated from the smuggling slave ships, who had been torn from their homes and parents, and destined to be sold as cattle in the market, seem cast\u2026for nuture and instruction, on the justice and humanity of their deliverers.’
\nFour settlements are established in Western Africa, with \u00a3500 raised for Rev. Samuel Marsden in New South Wales for a Mission in New Zealand.
