Niece of Emma Cons. She introduced the first opera at the Old Vic in 1913\u00a0 In 1925 Lilian launched a fund raising effort to get Sadlers Wells re-established in which opera could develop. It was opened in 1931, instituting the beginning of the Vic-Wells Association. She set both the Old Vic and Sadlers Wells on the course of success, which they enjoy today.
