H. Greathead was the engineer involved in the &#8216;gigantic and intricate piece of engineering work&#8217; that resulted in the first electric railway of the City and South London Railway, later the Northern Line.\u00a0 He was amongst others present at the inaugural function where the Prince of Wales turned the key and started the current.\u00a0 Mr Greathead, who specialised in constructing tunnels, was responsible for the first Thames subway.\u00a0 He lived in Leigham Court Road, and is buried in West Norwood Cemetery.
