Grove House and Woodland House, two large semi-detached houses, were built c.1842 by two publicans and brothers-in-law, Jeremiah Woollard and John Grove, who had bought 10 acres of land in Hither Green as a retirement investment. Over the next fifty year nine more houses were built on the estate and let, mostly on short-term leases. This photograph pictures the rear of Grove House in 1963.
