The building shown here was replaced in 1896, by which time the rural sports had long vanished from the area. In the late 18th and 19th centuries Lee Green was the centre for many popular sports such as bowling, cricket, horse-racing and prize-fighting. These centred on the Tiger's Head public house, built on this site in the 1750s.
