JOHN THORNTON RESIDENCE, CLAPHAM COMMON SOUTH SIDE, CLAPHAM

The residence of John Thornton, Clapham Common South Side. An Evangelical and a philanthropist, he lived here until his death in 1790. The building and the one next door were bought and converted into the Notre Dame Convent School in 1851, and later cleared for the Notre Dame housing estate in 1945.Photograph by B.R.Tucker, October 1906.
