The band leader, Joe Loss (centre) with a group of friends - from left to right: Ezrick Frances, a prominent Brixton “mechanic” (freemason); Chick La Rose, Brixton hair dresser, originally based in Somerleyton Road; Ena McDonald who had a hair weaving studio in Maxted Road, Peckham, and Courtney Laws who was the chair of the Friends of the Jamaica Labour Party. Laws was Brixton based and was for many years, a leading community leader in the days when there were no West Indian councillors or MP’s.  Photograph from the Harry Jacobs archive collection, c.1965.  Ref: IV233 SP9000/.
