WANDSWORTH ROAD, SOUTH LAMBETH

WANDSWORTH ROAD, SOUTH LAMBETH

View looking north towards Vauxhall, with Clifton Street on the right and showing the street market along Wandsworth Road. The semi-detached villas on the left behind the shop fronts, were assumed to be designed by J.M.Gandy, a pupil of Sir John Soane. In the 1824 R.A exhibition catalogue, Gandy refers to 'dwelling houses being built in Vauxhall Road etc'. They were demolished in 1953 and replaced with a housing scheme.
