‘WOOLPITS’, SURREY, HOME OF THE DOULTON FAMILY

'Woolpits', two miles from Leith Hill was the home of Sir Henry Doulton of Doulton Potteries, Lambeth, and was a prime example of the use of the Doulton terra cotta pottery in Architecture. Designed by Ernest George & Peto, Architects, the exterior is of terra cotta and the roofs of stone. The interior was also decorated with Doulton ware and the loggia was acclaimed for its design at the time. This perspective illustration was hung in the Royal Academy in 1885.
