ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH, STOCKWELL PARK ROAD, STOCKWELL

St Michael's Church in Stockwell Park Road. The church was begun in 1839 when the land was gifted by William Cox during the development of Stockwell Park. It was built to the designs of William Rogers in the 'Lancet' or Early English Gothic style and accommodated 1350 parishioners. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Winchester on the 9th November 1841. Engraving by R.Radclyffe of a drawing by T. Allom for 'Brayley's History of Surrey', c.1842.
