CANTERBURY CRESCENT, BRIXTON

CANTERBURY CRESCENT, BRIXTON

Canterbury Crescent, showing a view of a tower block and lower block of flats under construction in 1961. Following World War II, the huge shortage of housing in London was met by developments like this, with mixed density high and low-rise blocks of flats. The surrounding area had suffered considerable bomb damage during World War II, but pockets of Victorian terraces and semi detached residences are still to be seen nestling amongst the many new housing estates that have sprung up in the area.
