‘VIEW FROM MR AKERMAN’S HOUSE’, CLAPHAM COMMON, CLAPHAM

'View from Mr Akerman's House', showing the 'Sister Houses' that stood on Clapham Common North Side opposite Battersea Rise. The two houses, mirror images of each other, had extensive grounds. The one on the left, 'Gilmore House', once the home of John Walter, the founder of The Times, was later a training college for deaconesses. Engraving by Ravenhill, published by Sewell, c.1790.
