The King's visit to the Duchy of Cornwall estate on March 17th 1937. This photograph shows a departure from the official programme when the King stopped his car in Kennington Road at the Waifs and Strays Society Headquarters in order to speak to some of the 370 children who were gathered outside to cheer the convoy as it drove past. The Church of England Society for Waifs and Strays was renamed the Children's Society and the Vestry Hall served as their headquarters for many years. Published in the Illustrated London News, March 27th 1937.
