ROOKERY, STREATHAM COMMON

ROOKERY, STREATHAM COMMON

The Rookery, Streatham Common. This popular ornamental public garden was laid out in the grounds of 'The Rookery', a large house that stood on the top level, which was acquired and demolished by the LCC in 1913. Located on the site of one of Streatham's original mineral wells the lower level includes a wishing well as part of the well maintained flower garden. This view shows part of the top level seating and the ancient cedar tree on the left that has survived from the original 19th century garden. Digital image courtesy of G E Mahmoud, 2004.
