Norwood Schools, with a capacity to board seven hundred children who came under the operation of the Poor Law, was run as a strict but caring establishment. In addition to the ordinary elementary education the boys were trained in trades such as bootmaking, carpentry and tailoring; and the girls were taught cooking, laundry work, as well as cutting out and making clothes. This view shows the children enjoying their playtime.Photograph from an article entitled 'A Day in the Life of a Workhouse Child'.
