Norwood Schools, with a capacity to board seven hundred children who came under the operation of the Poor Law, was initially built as an industrial school and run as a strict but caring establishment. In addition to the ordinary elementary education the girls were taught cooking, laundry work, as well as cutting out and making clothes.
