The Telegraph public house was named to commemorate the late 18th century windmill atop Brixton Hill that was adapted by the Admiralty for use as a semaphore signal station immediately after the Napoleonic Wars. It was built in 1896 to the designs of W.M. Bruton, but closed in 2009.Digital image courtesy of Penelope Gretton, 2005.
