BABY’S DRESS MADE FROM PARACHUTE SILK:WORLD WAR II

A baby's dress made immediately after World War II from parachute silk by Mrs Hilda Gower of Streatham. From June 1941 onwards clothing was rationed and 'make do and mend' was encouraged, as was recycling fabric and a range of 'utility' clothing made from cheap fabric was introduced. Rationing continued for several years after the war.Digital image by kind permission of Graham Gower. From the Lambeth Archives Home Front project 2005.
