LETTER REGARDING ENTERTAINING TROOPS: WORLD WAR II

LETTER REGARDING ENTERTAINING TROOPS: WORLD WAR II

A letter from the Entertainment Branch of the Navy, Army, Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) regarding the invitations sent to troops to attend the Navillus social night in West Norwood. The Navillus was opened in Norwood High Street as a communal feeding centre, funded by an Argentinian business man, John Sullivan, and run by WVS member Vera Calvin. She also opened an evening social club to provide entertainment for the forces stationed locally. She recalls: 'A three-piece band played, for dancing to and singing songs, and there was a snack bar. The highlight was when the Scottish regiments taught us their reels!'Digital image by kind permission of Vera Calvin. From the Lambeth Archives Home Front project 2005.
