ST JOHN THE DIVINE, VASSALL ROAD, BRIXTON NORTH

The spire of St John the Divine in Vassall Road, seen from Camberwell New Road. St John's was built in 1870-4 to the designs of George Edmund Street and was considered one of his finest works. It was damaged by bombing during World War II destroying the lavish interior and stained glass. The church was restored by H.S Goodhart Rendel and reconsecrated on 27th September 1958.
