The gardens of Elm House, Clapham Common South Side, the largest of the Georgian estates around the common. It was at one time owned by Samuel Smith the great grandfather of Florence Nightingale. This view is annotated, 'The grounds of the late John Allnutt Esq'. He was a prosperous wine merchant and the house and grounds were redeveloped shortly after this picture was painted in 1863, now the site of Elm Road.Watercolour by H.
