Long service staff at John Oakey and Sons Ltd, Westminster Bridge Road in 1949. The staff includes C.G.Oakey (7th from left, centre row) with 58 years service and J.W.Oakey (8th left, centre row) with 54 years. Oakey's were renowned manufacturers of emery cloth, abrasive papers, polishes for domestic and industrial applications. In 1872 the firm moved from Blackfriars Road, acquiring the land previously held by the Royal Female Orphan Asylum, and by 1874 the factory and mills were erected to the design of Messrs.
