Letter to William Honey Esq. from George Sanger stating: 'I finally closed Sanger's Amphitheatre, Westmister Bridge Road on Feb 18th and have since sold the remainder of my lease in that property.' The letterhead boasts 'Lord George Sanger's greatest circus, hippodrome and menagerie in the world'. Formerly Astley's Amphitheatre, George Sanger became proprietor in 1871, but in 1893 he was forced to close the Amphitheatre for running a disorderly house by his landlords, the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. He then continued the business as a travelling circus.
