HAYWARD GALLERY AND QUEEN ELIZABETH HALL, SOUTH BANK

Hayward Gallery and Queen Elizabeth concert hall seen from Waterloo Bridge. Both are part of the South Bank arts complex and reknown for their striking architectural design by the GLC Department of Architecture, led by Geoffrey Horsefall. The Hayward was opened by the Queen in 1968 and named after Sir Isaac Hayward, former leader of the London County Council. The concert hall was completed in 1967 and contains two auditoria, The Elizabeth Hall with 1,100 seats and The Purcell Room with 372 seats.Photograph by M.D.Trace, August 1970.
