Hammerton's Stockwell Brewery, on the corner of Stockwell Green and Lingham Street, shown here prior to its demolition. Although claimed to be established in 1730, the first reference found for a brewery here on the Green was in 1801 when one was owned by Robert Tyer and occupied by Mr Roberts. Seen here shortly before being replaced by Truman Brewery's bottling plant, the site is now Oak Square residential development.St Andrew's church on the left, was originally known as the Stockwell Chapel of Ease before being remodelled.
