Boylands Oak at 243 Brixton Hill was for 30 years the home of Kate Carney the music hall artist and her husband George Barclay. Mr Barclay was regarded as the greatest music hall agent of his time and was nicknamed 'Guv', his wife was known as 'Mums'. They began life humbly taking bags of sawdust on a barrow to public houses for use on floors. Photograph by Henry Oakley, dated April 1937.
