BRIXTON THEATRE, BRIXTON

BRIXTON THEATRE, BRIXTON

The derelict entrance facade of Brixton Theatre between the Library on the right, and the Pullman Cinema (now The Ritzy). The Theatre was designed by Frank Matcham and opened in September 1896, seating 1,500. It was badly damaged by a bomb during the blitz in November 1940 and demolished, although the foundation stone unveiled by Sir Henry Irving, survives adjacent in Windrush Square..
