EDWARD BAWDEN MURAL, MORLEY COLLEGE, LAMBETH NORTH

EDWARD BAWDEN MURAL, MORLEY COLLEGE, LAMBETH NORTH

Mural by Edward Bawden (1903-89) depicting the 'Canterbury Tales' in the Refectory at Morley College, Lambeth North. A previous mural painted by him and Eric Ravilious in 1928-30 had been destroyed, along with much of the college, by bombing in 1940. Bawden received this commission in 1958 and the rebuilt college was officially opened in October of that year by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Photograph from Morley College Album.
