FOSSILIZED SHELLS, FESTIVAL HALL, SOUTH BANK

18 million year old fossilized shells of Pecten elegans, the ancestors of scallops, on display in the Festival Hall, South Bank. They were the gift in 2007 of Shell, one of the sponsors of the renovation of the hall, and come from Apt in France, dating from the Burdigalian period. Digital image taken 26th January 2008.
