Nos 148-160 (right to left) Lambeth Road, formerly Nos 10-15 Lambeth Terrace. Georgian terraced houses built c.1785 on the north side of Lambeth Road. No.150 was the home from 1798-1803 of the Irish-born lexicographer James Knowles. No.160, the left-hand house, was the home of Sir Philip Ben Greet (1857-1936), the Shakespearean actor and manager who lived here from 1920-36. Greet was a Director of the Old Vic (1914-18) and with his theatrical company, which included Sybil Thorndike, he toured Britain and the USA.Photograph by Sam Lambert.
