Two Kennington teenagers at a hop pickers' camp on Trottenden Farm, Goudhurst, Kent. Hop picking was often the main holiday for many London children, usually for a 4-6 week period until early September. It was done mostly by women and children, with men continuing to work in London and joining their families at weekends. Here the girls are dressed in their 'Sunday best' for a family outing to the village pub. The tent behind accommodated weekend visitors and cooking was done on the adjacent camp fire.
