NICHOLAS HAWKSMOOR DRAWING: BLENHEIM PALACE HALL

NICHOLAS HAWKSMOOR DRAWING: BLENHEIM PALACE HALL

An early architectural design by Nicholas Hawksmoor (c1661-1736) for the west wall of the Hall at Blenheim Palace where he worked with John Vanburgh. The Hall as executed is considered to be mostly Hawksmoor's design. He was a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren and one of Britain's finest Baroque architects, also working at Castle Howard and building the West Towers of Westminster Abbey. He is listed in Kennington Manor records as being a tenant with property in Lambeth Marsh from 1714-24, at a tenement called 'The Rose'.
