HERBERT MORRISON AT WORLD WAR II TRENCH, CLAPHAM COMMON

Herbert Morrison, Leader of the London County Council, inspecting a new type of steel-lined and roofed ARP trench being built on Clapham Common, designed to be covered by turf or a garden, enabling the Common to 'resume a normal appearance'. Although the World War II declaration of war was a while off, Civil Defence measures begun to be implemented as a precaution during 1938. Dated 16th November 1938.
