BROCKWELL PARK FROM KNIGHT’S HILL, HERNE HILL

BROCKWELL PARK FROM KNIGHT’S HILL, HERNE HILL

An Illustrated London News engraving by William Strudwick titled, 'Brockwell Park near Herne Hill & Dulwich, to be purchased for the public recreation'. The accompanying text states Brockwell Park was owned by Mr Joshua Blackburn who offered 78 of the estate's 130 acres to the public for £1,500 per acre, granting the committee 6 months to raise the sum. It was noted: 'The price is an exceptionally moderate one and compares favourably with the £4,300 per acre paid for Vauxhall Park, or the £4,000 per acre which is proposed to pay for Raleigh House site [for housing].'The Park is seen here from Knight's Hill to the south-east.
