Patients in a ward of the Lambeth Council Maternity Home in West Norwood, with bassinets at their bedsides. The original house at 12 Hannen Road was bought by the Council in June 1920 at a cost of £750 as a maternity home. However, within 6 months over 300 women per month were using the facilities and additional accommodation was acquired with the purchase of 210 Knight's Hill as a second Maternity Home and Infant Welfare Centre, where this photograph was possibly taken.
