An appeal leaflet from the Kyre Society for funds to turn The Lawn into a park - the donations requested by Octavia Hill of the Society enabled the creation of Vauxhall Park. Later 'much indignation' was felt by supporters of the Fund regarding the demolition of The Lawn, Henry Fawcett's house, called at the time 'an act of vandalism by the Vestry'. The initial proposal was to turn Fawcett's house into a local museum. A statue of Henry Fawcett made by George Tinworth was later presented by Sir Henry Doulton and placed in the centre of the park. However, it was controversially demolished by Lambeth Council in the early 1960's.
