PLAQUE: CAPT. JOHN VALLENTIN, ST MARY’S GARDENS, LAMBETH

The Mercian Regimental lamb and soldiers flanked by cadets and Sgt Johnson Beharry V.C. at the unveiling of the memorial plaque to Captain John Franks Vallentin V.C. (1882-1914) in St Mary's Gardens, Lambeth Road. Vallentin of the 1st South Staffordshire regiment was born in Lambeth and killed at the first battle of Ypres on 7th November 1914 during World War I. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross medal for bravery.
