Claylands was built by John Fentiman Snr on marshy land purchased c.1790, which was drained and filled 'at considerable expense'. Seen here when lived in by Catherine, the widow of his son, also called John who died in 1838. Published by R. Bede, January 1st 1842 for Edward Brayley's 'History of Surrey', 1850.
