GEORGE MAYNARD, DOGGETT COAT & BADGE RACE ENTRY FORM

Waterman George Maynard's 1833 entry form for the Doggett Coat & Badge race, held annually on the River Thames. He was instructed to 'attend in your boat at Fishmonger's Hole near London Bridge on Thursday the 1st August.....to start and row for the Coat and Badge'. The race was from London Bridge to The Swan at Chelsea - the boat 'must be such as have been licensed to carry six persons'. George Maynard, who lived in Lambeth, went on to win the race. Dated 19th July 1833 and signed by John David Towse, Clerk to the Fishmongers' Company.
