A candle Dipping-machine at the works of Messrs B.T. & W. Hawes in Commercial Road, Waterloo. Here the wicks are dipped into a trough of melted tallow, cooled before repeating the dipping. With this machine it was noted a man and a boy could produce twenty-six thousand 'between six o'clock in the morning and four in the afternoon of the same day.' From The Penny Magazine, January 1842
