A page from the Streatham Roll of Honour, 1914-18, recording the 744 men associated with Streatham who were killed during World War I. Those listed here include: Leslie Matthews killed Vimy Ridge; Ezra Mears Torpedo Instructor HMS 'Black Prince', killed Battle of Jutland; Gabriel Meyer killed, Ypres. Others listed elsewhere include: W.J.Mitchell, Cyclist London Cycle Division, died 3rd June 1917; Joseph Leonard Kemp, Royal Navy, H.M Torpedo Boat, killed 10th June 1915; Francis Richard Cubbon MC, Captain 72nd Punjabi's, killed Comines 10th June 1917; Harold Lynch Burgess, Temp. Captain RAMC West Africa Force, Nigeria, torpedoed off Ireland, November 1917; William Vinall, Lead Stoker HMS Queen Mary, killed at the Battle of Jutland 31st May 1916 (the Queen Mary was a battle cruiser, two hits by German shells caused the magazine to explode - only 20 out of the 1,269 crew survived).
