Thomas Becket was the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his murder at Canterbury cathedral in 1170. It is considered most likely that Becket performed consecrations at Lambeth and it was here after his death that the Bishops met to select his successor.Engraving from an original painting by John van Eyck in the Arundel Collection.
