LAMBETH’S AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS EXERCISE: ARP BLACKOUT

LAMBETH’S AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS EXERCISE: ARP BLACKOUT

A handbill for an Air Raid Precaution exercise overnight on the 9th-10th August 1939. Britain had been on a war footing as Germany's military intentions in Europe became apparent. Lambeth's ARP blackout insisted that lights must be extinguished or screened from 12.30am-4.00pm. Illuminated signs and shop windows also turned off, plus all vehicles to be kept off the road. It notes, 'This is an essential step in securing the safety of London from air attacks.'
