Sir Edwin Durning-Lawrence (1837-1914) was a lawyer and M.P, as well as a notable benefactor, donating Lambeth Council's mace and mayoral chain, along with a large collection of works to Lambeth Libraries by Francis Bacon and three 17th century folios of William Shakespeare's plays. He was an advocate of 'Bacon was Shakespeare', a controversial claim now widely discredited. From Brixton Free Press, dated 30th January 1914.
