Sir Edwin Durning-Lawrence (1837-1914) was a lawyer and M.P, as well as a notable benefactor, donating Lambeth Council's mace and mayoral chain, along with a large collection of works by Francis Bacon and three 17th century folios of William Shakespeare's plays (currently loaned by Lambeth Council to the British Library). He was an advocate of 'Bacon was Shakespeare', a controversial claim now widely discredited. From Brixton Free Press, dated 30th January 1914.
