BAYTREE ROAD, BRIXTON: WORLD WAR I INCIDENT

Air-raid damage to houses in Baytree Road, Brixton, from an Airship raid by a L.31 Zeppelin, World War 1.  Nine of the twelve airships which set out on this raid crossed the British coast reached England and 371 bombs were dropped, with 40 people killed and 130 injured. The damage done was estimated at £135,000.  23rd September 1916. Ref. Article in the Brixton Illustrated Press, 27th November 1925
